Stucco & Plastering

Preparing for Plastering
Within all the services Art Deco Plastering provides, our main line is plastering diverse textures. We have the availability to work on existing buildings as well as new buildings. In addition we apply plastering over foam moldings as prints suggest or our clients demand. To enforce plastering standards, we supervise every single progress of our team members, ensuring we all meet the plastering thickness codes, as well as the components utilized to mix the mud. The process we follow in a typical project initiates with the assembly of a scaffold as per OSHA standards. Once the scaffold has been built and rigorously inspected, we proceed with the wire lath installation, and other additional plastic components.
We continue preparing the areas by cleaning off the dust on walls that will receive the first coat and covering all surfaces that might get damage in the process such as plants, windows, roof, tile roof, doors, floors, pipes, etcetera. Our staff has been properly trained to daily inspect the work site assuring the implementation of an organized and clean job site. Before any plastering is applied the wire lath is stapled and nailed to cover all wood framed areas and we install plastic components such as corner beads and plaster stops which serve as guidelines to the plasters. Once the wire lath installation is completed it is submitted to the local city for inspection.
Plastering Process
The following step is the cement applications, divided in four different coats: scratch coat, skim coat, brown coat and a finish coat. The scratch coat is applied evenly covering block, concrete and wire lath surfaces. The next two coats are applied to make the surfaces even and prepare it for the required final coat. On the final coat we focus our direction on the exterior finish we will apply. The finish goes according to prints specifications, however if our client desires a customized finish, we arrange meetings to develop stucco samples and implement their visions. During the life of the project we strive to consistently and effectively communicate with our staff to ensure each phase is being completed according to schedule thereby avoiding costly errors.
